Understanding the goal
SDG 5.2
Target 5.2 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals calls on the world to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls — in public and private life, including trafficking and exploitation.
What SDG 5.2 means
The Sustainable Development Goals are seventeen shared commitments adopted by every UN member state. Goal 5 is about gender equality, and target 5.2 focuses specifically on ending violence against women and girls everywhere.
It covers harm in the home and in public, as well as trafficking and exploitation. Progress is measured not only by laws passed, but by whether women and girls can move through daily life — study, work, travel, participate online — without fear.
Reaching this target depends on prevention: education that starts early, communities that speak openly, and institutions that respond seriously. That prevention work is where a youth-led initiative can make a genuine difference.
